The Sony Touch PRS-600 boasts an effective touchscreen, as well as usual physical buttons. This makes using the ebook reader especially easy, although the screen is a little glossier than on other models, making it more prone to reflections. Although it's more compact than the Amazon Kindle, the Sony is still better suited to a bag than a pocket. Using the small stylus that slots into the top-right corner of the device it's possible to highlight and annotate sections of the books that you're reading, making it more useful as a serious study tool than many of its rivals. The touchscreen is also useable when you're turning pages - simply swipe a finger from one side of the screen to the other to flick to the next page. You'll need to install software on your Mac or PC in order to get started - the Sony Ebook Reader Library handles getting your ebooks on to the reader. You'll be prompted to download this once you've charged up the reader via a USB connection. Once your device has been registered online you'll have access to a range of classic titles. You'll need to download ebooks on to your PC first (either free ones or bought), and then copy them across on to the reader whenever it's connected. Once they're installed you can sort them by date, title or author, and use an onscreen touch keyboard to enter search terms to find anything specific. There's also a built-in picture viewer and an MP3 player - connect a pair of headphones, and you can listen to music while you're reading. You can also boost the storage capacity by inserting an SD card. Pros: well constructed, effective touchscreen Cons: Glossier screen than other models
