History was made when on RTÉ’s The Late Late Show in March 1987 an eclectic mix of personalities gathered together with a common goal – to celebrate 25 years of The Dubliners.

During rehearsals Jim McCann whispered to me: “This show will either end in tears or else will be a night to be remembered.” The only tears were tears of laughter and it certainly was a night never to be forgotten – almost two hours of fast moving live television spiced with the essence of Dublin wit, music, song and stories of life on the road. The craic was 90; the studio was packed with colleagues, well-wishers and fellow entertainers and the show included performances from U2, The Pogues, Christy Moore, Jim McCann, The Fureys and Stockton’s Wing.

It was a spontaneous, run-away party caught live on camera – the kind of party where you’d say: “I wish we’d taped that!” Well we did, and 21 years later it is still sighted as land-mark.

The old video master tapes have been dusted down and re-mastered and for the first time this extended edition is released on DVD. It will bring back happy memories to those who saw it live 21 years ago, and for those who weren’t born then, it will be an insight to the calibre of all the artists involved.
