Set in a modern midlands market town, unnamed but utterly familiar, the original award winning Pure Mule series first burst onto our screens in 2005. We meet Shamie, shy and sensitive, his brother, the legendary Scobie Donoghue, country girl Therese, Kevin Walsh, posh bogger, Deirdre Freeman, the Guard’s wife, and her sister Jennifer Jackson, just back from Australia and ready to cause hell...
Each episode focuses on one particular character from Friday evening to Monday morning. The madness of the booze filled weekend where a night can turn into one of magic or misery. 'Went out, long queue, sh*te beer, no craic, walked home in the rain on me own, it was pure mule' or 'went out, straight in, no kissin', loadsa drink and scored big time, it was pure mule'. It can mean either!
Four years later we revisit the town. The site is shut. The Boom has bust. Scobie dithers over going to Oz to join his brother. Jennifer arrives back from London to bury her Ma. Over the course of one final LAST WEEKEND, these friends reconnect and are forced to make choices that will effect the rest of their lives.
